Sentinel Rock Trekking
Sentinel rock is located at Vellarimala village Chooralmala in Wayanad district of gods own country Kerala. This enchanting waterfall is at Vellarimala village near Chooralmala in Meppadi panchayat. Locally known as Soochippara the Sentinel rock is 200 meter in length, it is an exemplary place for rock climbing and serve as a picnic spot and a trekking center. It can be reached by 2km of earthy walk seeing various floras and faunas including deers. The trek to this place is not so difficult and can be achieved by any nature lover. Edakkal caves: Edakkal caves (‘stone in between’) is illustrious fabrication of earthy nature, where a big boulder has balanced itself on two comparatively small boulders thus composing this beautiful art piece. The two levels inside the cave can be entered through the entering point that is 5 ft in height. The lower chamber inside the cave is 18 feet long and 10 feet high from where you can advance forward to the upper chamber measuring at 95 feet long and 18 feet high. When entered inside you can see varieties of arts engraved in the stones which have already been a curiosity for archaeologist across the globe.
Valliyoorkavu Bhagavathi Temple: Located 3 km away from Mananthavady, the temple is positioned near river Kabani on the journey to Koileri-Panamaram route. The temple and its festival hold a vital purpose in the history of Wayanad. The greeneries on both sides of the road and Kabani River add an extraordinary beauty and a complete stage for the big festival which is celebrated with great enthusiasm in this particular place. The temple is dedicated to Bhagavathy and the renowned Valliyoorkavu festival starts from 14th to 28th of March.
Tholpetty Wildlife Sanctuary: Located at a distance of 20 km from Mananthavady this place is a home to varieties of animals (tigers, bears, leopards, fishes, reptiles etc.) and birds. One can also enjoy watch tower stay, jeep safari, bird watching etc. You can visit this place by granting permission from the Assistant Wildlife Warden and the visiting time is from 0600-0800hrs and 1500-1730hrs.
